About CSAIL and IPRI

This initiative is a joint effort between MIT’s Internet Policy and Research Initiative (IPRI) and the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).

MIT CSAIL
CSAIL is MIT’s world-leading computer science laboratory. It is the largest lab at MIT with over 1700 members, 900+ active projects and 120 scientists. The work in the lab spans everything in computer science and artificial intelligence. Many of the researchers work on privacy-related technical research in the areas of cryptography, databases, cybersecurity, programming languages, artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction.

MIT IPRI
IPRI is a cross-MIT initiative pioneering a new style of cross-disciplinary research and policy dialogue that brings together scholars from across campus in disciplines as diverse as economics, political science, anthropology and urban studies, all of which are necessary, along with computer science to address these technology and policy questions. In its first four years, IPRI has established a track record of technology policy leadership and government engagement on issues such as encryption and surveillance, AI governance, and privacy. IPRI’s work on these issues has been strengthened by our trusted working relationships with technology policy leaders in government in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, India, several US states, as well as with international organizations including the OECD and the World Bank.
